CG Animation Demo ReelFrom Chicken Little to Gnomeo and Juliet, the cg work has been varied and fun, covering Disney, Sony Imageworks, Warner Bros, and Starz Animation in Canada. I animated all characters and props in the reel.

Sprint EVO 4G CommercialEVO 4G commercial was done in two weeks at DD. Done with one other animator who was available part time during the two weeks; we both touched almost all of the shots due to the shortened schedule. It aired 5 days after completion. My main shots were: 2,4,5,6; I re-worked 8 and 9 after first pass was done.

Cats Don't Dance 1997Character Animation done on "Cat's Don't Dance" I was primarily an animatior on the Danny crew. But as you can see, I ended up working on a lot of other characters as well. This was a fun project and a great crew. I've indicated with titles which characters I animated in the shots.

ClaymationCALRAB Locker Room Ad 1989I designed and animated the Fudgsicle Coach here. On the one wide-angle shot with the crowd in the back, the lens was so wide-angle that I had to climb down to below the set to hit the button so as not to be seen in camera. The hardest thing was to remember to turn the little projector light on and off and turn the reels on each frame; I used a chart and marked them off as I did them, I had a little gauge to move the reel the same amount each time. Mentally difficult work nonetheless. The one pan shot of the crowd was animated by Carol Ashley, and the Football Raisins were animated by Bob Terrell.

Claymation Demo Reel 1988-1989This is work done from 1988 to 1989 at Will Vinton's Studio in Portland, OR. I designed the dancing frogs and the Fudgsicle Coach. I storyboarded and animated on glass for the Slurpee ad. I storyboarded and self-direcedt the "Country Rap" tune as well as did the drawing on the filmstrip behind (ala Norman McClaren); many of the props were made from other shows or ads that were around the studio that I just threw in for the Monkee's Head effect. The first shot I ever animated for them was the extreme squash and stretch dancing Raisins on the rock, did one experimental take for timing on the rock up/down to music then got it on first take (thank gawd). A lot of thumbnails and boarding went into each scene; it allowed for a lot more precision.
Although I animated, these shows were made with a team of people and we all suffered through them together. The sky backdrop was spray-painted by Mr. Bob Terrell who also animated on the "Ain't Too Proud To Beg" video. The firing gunshots of the Raisins at the start of the Country Rap was taken from "Meet the Raisins" (the editor Scott Sundholm's idea) and was animated by Brad Johnson if I remember correctly. The nice Slurpee sign and cup in the Slurpee ad were built by Theresa Drilling, who is an excellent animator in her own right and a really nice person. |
7Eleven Slurpee Ad 1989Claymation commercial I animated on glass at Will Vinton's back in the late 80's. working straight ahead which I timed it out ahead of time to the soundtrack. There's one shot that had to be re-done and I lined it all up using the film itself, and then animated backwards to be able to do the transition correctly. But turned out pretty seamless (the shot was the kid with the fryingpan eyes, sweat was animated backwards). The nice lettering cup and logo were done by the great Theresa Drilling, a terrific animator and person.
